New Year Reflections

Are you working on your New Year’s Resolutions for 2014?  You might be thinking about what you want to change that is very concrete, such as eating better and/or exercising.  This year I’m suggesting that you reflect on what qualities you want to imbibe in yourself during 2014.  What would make you a better person?  Here are a few I’m reflecting on:

1)  Compassion.  It can be so easy to have strong opinions and judgements about people and situations.  If I can stop myself when I’m doing this, and be compassionate instead, everyone will feel better.  And not only will I better understand what’s going on, but I’ll be in a better place to respond appropriately.

2)  Self-responsibility.  Taking responsibility for my thoughts, feelings and actions will keep me focused on improving myself.  I can then act from integrity and be able to work through conflicts more productively.

3) Acceptance.  This applies to myself as well as to others.  We all do our best in life and we aren’t perfect.  Accepting our weaknesses along with our strengths will support us in becoming healthier human beings.

I wish you abundant inner joy and peace for 2014.

Happy New Year!
